Like Bring your sister to your aunt 10 kilometers away next village by foot, no slipper. If some did go wrong your mother will not just stand there listening to you. Excuse me folks, but I would like to express my very personal opinion about this question! I think that's a kind of question that shouldn't be asked to people of any nation, because it either brings a sense of discouragement in life, in the case there arent many opportunities, or on the other hand, that everything is going to be all right just because of the place where you were born. Reality is not ours to choose, otherwise there would be no fight, no challenges... reality is ours to change.

Jullie zijn wel heel erg arm daar. De hele babyboom gaat er hier straks uit, mogen jullie voor ons werken en belasting betalen.

And next time try to explain yourself without using profanities. It will make you look more like the educated person you claim to be.

I lived 2 years in Suriname and currently in Haiti (If you want to see real poverty, I invite you to come to Haiti) for my study of the African cultures in The Americas and Europe. Next time you visit Suriname dont just go visit the poorest neighbourhoods, the maroons and the Amerindians. But go to different places to see how all the people live. Because the 5% that have it really bad and arent trying to do anything about it, do not represent the whole Surinamese population.

The country isn't ripped by war, religion differences, racism or natural disasters. You see it as poverty but for those people they are satisfied with the little they have. Because they don't have computers, LCD TVs and all other material stuff you have, doesn't make them poor. Im from the USA. I hoped we had that kinda poverty here, because if you though the that 80% of those people are poor, I dont know what you will say about the 60% of the people in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

I'm sorry Bigsmilewear but the poverty in Suriname compared to poverty in USA, Africa, Asia and even some European countries is not bad. Maybe the maroons and Amerindians don't have it that good, but that's because they choose to live in the bush instead of the civilized world. Yes, they don't have a great economy(mostly because they have only 500,000 citizens), best education system or healthcare. But Surinamese people aren't dying of starvation or homelesness.

Re: Suriname
an amazing video, with content that makes you think about the difference in perception of, at the one hand the people that actually live there, and at the other hand people from outside that county who's image of third world countries, or whatever label you want to give it, is immensely influenced by western media networks. Or could it be that the reality that the people in those countries hold as being true , might be a distorted one?...

I never trust anyone who claims he wants t be the president one day. He's an opportunist and power-hungry philistine posing as an idealist.
