Throwing mud

One of my last blogs started out with an old Dutch sayings and the current situation is fit to do that again. The saying for today is: 'voetbal is oorlog'. This can be translated as 'soccer is war' or football is war'. It probably depends on which word (soccer, football) is used in your country. This saying can once again be applied to - my favorite subject - the presidential elections in america. Let`s face it people: 'politics as usual' doesn`t sound half as exciting as 'voetbal is oorlog'.

We`ve got about one more month to go before the American people will set course for the nearest voting booth. Who will it be? Senator McCain or senator Obama? Well, that`s up to the people of course, however, both republicans and democrats are using everything at their disposal to convince the voters that their guy is the right one for the job. "By all means necessary" as long as the day to vote isn`t here ey?

So it seems but there`s one remark that I have to add to this. The Dutch government has a very different tradition when it comes to campaigning. First of all campaigns are always a lot shorter: mostly several months. An even more important factor is that the campaigns in my country aren`t half as
